Our 1st annual Read & Feed
Summer Program in the summer of
2023
was amazing!

Children from Oak Park, Gibson and West Oso Elementary Schools were invited, along with their families, to participate. For three straight weeks during the month of July, we gathered at Crossbridge Fellowship Church in the evenings. Dinner was provided for all the families and volunteers, followed by one-on-one tutoring and read aloud sessions. Our goal is to not only work with each child but to include their families.

We believe that getting parents on board with their children’s education plays an important role in its success. While the children were busy, we also had parent informational sessions. The theme was, “How to Help Your Kids Succeed in School.”  Every night, topics and strategies were presented to the parents so they have more resources to help their children have a successful school year.

We also had guest speakers come and talk to the families about the importance of reading and how they use reading in their daily lives. We had a pastor, a children’s author, an officer from the US Coast Guard, and two leaders from Majesty Outdoors (a mentoring ministry for fatherless children) and a facilitator for Faith & Works/Faith & Finance-a ministry of STCHM (South TX Children’s Home Ministries). The children ended camp with a Reader’s Theatre production and received a bag full of books to add to their home libraries.

2FEET OUT Ministries

OUR GOAL AT 2FEET OUT MINISTRIES IS TO HELP THOSE IN GENERATIONAL POVERTY GET 2 FEET OUT AND STAY OUT! GENERATIONAL POVERTY IS DIFFERENT FROM SITUATIONAL POVERTY. SITUATIONAL POVERTY IS USUALLY CAUSED BY A SUDDEN CRISIS OR LOSS AND IS OFTEN TEMPORARY. GENERATIONAL POVERTY IS POVERTY IN FAMILIES WHERE AT LEAST TWO GENERATIONS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED, AND THEY ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE TOOLS TO MOVE OUT OF THEIR SITUATIONS. HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT CHILDREN BORN INTO POVERTY:

--THEY THINK IT'S THEIR FAULT: THEY FEEL GREAT SHAME.THEY BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE JUDGE THEM.

--LACK OF EDUCATION IS THE MAIN CAUSE AND THEIR CHILDREN ARE MORE LIKELY TO FOLLOW IN THEIR PARENTS' FOOTSTEPS AS THEY ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO DROP OF OF HIGH SCHOOL. TEEN PREGNANCY IS ALSO MORE LIKELY.

--THEY GIVE UP HOPE: THEY SEE HOW MUCH THEIR PARENTS STRUGGLE AND FIGURE THEY ALWAYS WILL TOO. THEY CAN'T IMAGINE THEIR LIVES EVER BEING DIFFERENT.
